Madeira, Portugal Climate & Temperature Highs and Lows

The Madeira archipelego is located in the Atlantic ocean to the south west of mainland Portugal. Because these islands are typified by their tall mountains the Madeira temperature has great variablity. It can be warm and sunny at sea level where as at higher altitudes clouds can form causing wet and cold weather. Madeira is famous for its diverse species and wild flowers that grow at different altitudes enjoying the differing climatic conditions offered.

Compared with the Portugal climate on the mainland Madeira enjoys cooler summers and warmer winters. In March and April the springtime temperatures are between 13 and 20 degrees and by May the high temp is 21 degrees on Average. Rainfall levels are on average 48.7mms in January at Porto Santo and this falls to just 14mms by May.

The climate in Porto Santo in summer time has temperature averages at between 17 and 25 degrees celcius in June, July and August. The temperature in Funchal Madeira at Autumn time is still very mild with low temperatures falling from 19 to 16 degrees celcius. Rainfall is low at 3.2mms in July and this increases 39.9mms in October with the highest level of 69.9mms falling in December.
